Teaching Tips:

Encourage children to create their own stories about Zero the Hero, similar to the stories in the song. Use names and interests of the children in your room.

Also, discuss the fact that zero sometimes “holds the place.” Here is another chant you may teach: “Zero holds a place…Zero holds a place…When you’ve got no numbers in that space, zero holds the place.” Use 10’s blocks to show children how our base 10 system works.
