Sixty Seconds in One Minute

Listen to this song

60 seconds in 1 minute, 60 seconds in 1 minute,
60 seconds in 1 minute.
What can we do in 1 minute?

We could count so high or say the ABC’s.
We could eat a little pizza. Can we have some please?

60 minutes in 1 hour, 60 minutes in 1 hour,
60 minutes in 1 hour.
What can we do in 1 hour?

We could exercise at the park
Or read with our parents until it gets dark.

24 hours in 1 day, 24 hours in 1 day, 24 hours in 1 day.
What can we do in 1 day?

We wake up in the morning. In the afternoon we play.
In the evening we sleep until the next day.

7 days in 1 week, 7 days in 1 week, 7 days in 1 week.
What can we do in 1 week?

We go to school on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday.
The weekend comes on Saturday and Sunday.

There are about 4 weeks in 1 month, about 4 weeks in 1 month, about 4 weeks in 1 month.
What can we do in 1 month?

A month…Well, that’s about 30 days long.
If we read everyday, we can’t go wrong.

12 months in 1 year, 12 months in 1 year, 12 months in 1 year.
What can we do in 1 year?

From winter, to spring, to summer, to fall,
Four seasons pass as we grow tall!

Teaching Tips:

Discuss things we could do that take one minute. Give the children a chance to choose between various activities, and time them for a minute. When the minute is up, they should draw or write about what they did.

Next, discuss things we could do in one hour. Tell the children to pay attention to what we do in class for an hour. Discuss and write about the hour.

For homework, the children can work with their parents to write about things they can do in 1 day, 1 week, or 1 year. Discuss responses.
Use your reproducible hundreds chart to create a book. The first page can be white. On the second page, color every other number yellow. On the third page, color every 5th number yellow. On the fourth page, color every 10th number yellow.
