Teaching Tips for "Silent Letters"
• Make an on-going
list of words containing silent letters. Throughout the
year, the class may point out words containing silent
letters. Add these to the list.
• Add a spelling
notebook entry entitled “Silent Letters.”
• Cross out the
silent letter in words to show that they don’t make a
sound. When making word cards, write the word in blue.
Cross out the silent letter with a red marker.
• Decorate a shoe
box, where children can add new “silent letter” words.
